The growth in the understanding of the church of human sexuality has been directed by an awareness of fundamental truths about human nature and destiny which are grounded in the holy scripture, proclaimed by the Magisterium and reform by theological traditions.

To understand the teachings on human sexuality by the fathers of the church, a person should know very well about the heretic movements and teachings prevalent during the period which failed to appreciate the basic goodness of human sexuality.
